LAKE WACCAMAW — Lexi Ventura scored the tying goal Thursday as East Bladen rallied for a 1-1 tie with East Columbus in Waccamaw Conference jayvee girls’ soccer action.

“Lexi had an outstanding game,” said East Bladen Coach Jay Raynor. “She had to play box to box tonight. She kept us in the game and her goal helped us secure a result. The girls played hard and left it all on the field.”

Raynor continued, “They faced adversity a lot tonight. Going down 0-1 they could’ve hung their heads. Multiple situations throughout the match their character was tested. What I’m most proud of was their character that shown through the adversity they faced. The girls really care about one another it shows. They want to get better. They want to learn the game. They want to be on the field with each other.”

“Jaziyeah (Daniels) had a great game in goal for us,” noted Raynor. “The leadership of Annika (Bass) and Lexi was demonstrated all throughout the match. Aubri Benton had a great first half but was sidelined with an ankle injury. Losing Aubri was tough. She was doing well in midfield and helping us initiate our attack.”

Raynor added, “Janice (Alvarez-Nunez), Rosario (Vazquez-Salinas), and Ariana (Rojo-Diaz) did outstanding for us in the back tonight. They hustled and made the stops we needed in crucial moments. The girls showed a lot of improvement from Tuesday to today.”
