LAKE WACCAMAW – A 3-run 2nd inning propelled East Columbus to a 6-1 non-conference jayvee softball victory over West Bladen Wednesday.
Catcher Ashajanae Lesane-Powell slammed 2 doubles, and freshman Summer Smith batted 2-2 for the winners. Freshman Kaley Mitchell pitched a one-hitter to pick up the win.
Freshman Megan Pait drew a one-out walk in the 3rd inning for the Lady Knights. Kaitlyn Brisson belted a single, and Brookee Singletary and Hannah Richardson drew walks as Pait scored the West Bladen run.
Brisson collected the only Lady Knight hit. Richardson drew 2 walks, and Pait, Gracie Faircloth, Singletary, Violet Allen, Briley Stanley and Josie Troublefield drew one walk each. Kylie Duffle was hit by a pitch.
Faircloth pitched all 4 innings for the Lady Knights, striking out 3 and allowing 5 hits.
The Lady Knight jayvees, now 1-1, will travel to Red Springs Wednesday at 4 p.m.
