RED SPRINGS – A 5-run second-inning rally propelled West Bladen to an 11-6 Three Rivers Conference jayvee softball victory over Red Springs Monday.

The Lady Knights grabbed a quick 1-0 lead when sophomore Madison Walters reached base on a passed third strike and came around to score. Red Springs turned 2 walks, and J. Johnson’s double into 2 runs and a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning.

Kayla Norris laid down a bunt single to begin the West Bladen second. Sophmore Taylor West dropped down another bunt and reached base on an error. Kaylee Page walked, and Briley Stanley knocked in Norris with a single to centerfield.

Walters belted a single to centerfield that scored West and Page, and sophomore Armani Cowan smashed a single to centerfield that drove in Stanley and Walters and put the Lady Knights up 6-2.

Norris walked and stole a base in the West Bladen third inning. West beat out a bunt single that scored Norris then scored herself as the lead grew to 8-2.

Red Springs closed the gap to 8-3, but Walters led off the fourth with a single to left, stole two bases and scored on an error. Freshman Hailey Guyton, Cowan, Ryleigh Bailey and KyLee Ward drew walks, and Guyton and Cowan scored to stretch the Lady Knight lead to 11-2.

Walters batted 2-3 with a run batted in and 3 runs scored to lead the Lady Knight hitters. Cowan, Norris, West and Stanley added one hit each. Cowan drove in 2 runs, and West and Stanley had one rbi each. Norris and West scored 2 runs each, and Guyton, Cowan, Page and Stanley scored one run each.

West pitched all 4 innings to pick up the victory, striking out 8 and allowing 6 runs – 2 earned – on 4 hits and 4 walks.
