BLADENBORO – Freshman Marlene Crabtree pitched a 6-hitter and struck out 9 batters to lead West Bladen to an 11-5 Southeastern Athletic Conference jayvee softball victory Friday over St. Pauls.

Crabtree walked 3 and hit 4 batters – only 3 of the 5 St. Pauls runs were earned.

Freshman Marlie Walters drilled a double past the left fielder to start the Lady Knight 1st inning. Sophomore Megan Pait ripped a single through the middle that scored Walters. Pait raced home as freshman Holland Davis reached base on an error.

Violet Allen walked, and Laci Buffkin’s bunt single scored Davis. Alina Chavez walloped a triple to center field that brought home Allen and Buffkin. Shelby Burns’ bunt single plated Chavez to put West up 6-0.

Pait hammered a double to left-center field in the West 2nd inning. Davis smacked a single to left-center that plated Pait, and Allen drilled a triple to right-center field that scored Davis and padded the Lady Knight lead to 8-0.

Ke’Mya Baldwin tripled to start the St. Pauls 3rd inning, and singles by pitcher Kayla Williams and Demira Wells plus 2 West Bladen errors resulted in 4 runs for the Lady Bulldogs.

Walters yanked a single past shortstop to start the Lady Knight 3rd inning then raced home on Pait’s fielder’s choice. Allen was hit by a pitch in the 4th inning, stole 2 bases and dashed home when Chavez smacked a single to stretch the lead to 10-4.

Crabtree laced a single to left in the 5th inning and stole 2 bases. After Pait and Davis drew walks, Allen’s infield hit scored Crabtree and pushed the West lead to 11-5.

Allen finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a triple, 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored to lead the West hitters. Chavez batted a perfect 2-for-2 with a triple, 2 RBIs and a run scored. Pait was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

Walters batted 2-for-4 with a double and 2 runs scored. Crabtree, Davis, Buffkin and Banks collected 1 hit each. Davis scored 2 runs, and Crabtree and Buffkin scored 1 run each. Davis, Buffkin and Burns had 1 RBI each.

Roni Hishlar and Williams both batted 2-for-4 to lead the St. Pauls hitters.

Coach Joe Lewis’ Lady Knights remained undefeated at 4-0 in SAC-7 play and 5-0 overall. The Lady Knight jayvees will travel to Midway Tuesday.
