ST PAULS – Sophomore Mollie Tolar lit up the scoreboard with 18 service points to lead East Bladen to a 2-0 Southeastern Athletic Conference junior varsity volleyball victory over St. Pauls Thursday by set scores of 25-8 and 25-13.
Tolar captured 9 consecutive service points as the Lady Eagles grabbed an early 12-1 lead. A pair of service points from sophomore Mary Frances Sutton padded the lead to 16-3, before freshman Jenna Brice drilled in 5 aces during her service string of 6 straight points that ended the set.
Sutton rallied East Bladen into an 8-8 tie in the 2nd set with 4 straight service points. Two service points each from sophomores Martha Simmons and Iveonna “NeNe” Ward edged the Lady Eagles in front 14-12. Tolar then served out the match with a service blitz of 9 consecutive points.
Tolar finished with 3 aces, 5 attacks and a kill. Sutton pounded in 6 kills, 9 attacks, 6 service points and 1 ace. Brice hammered in the 5 aces and 1 other service point. Ward knocked in 3 service points that included 1 ace and had 1 attack.
Simmons racked up 4 attacks, 3 kills, 2 service points and a dig. Zoe Smith totaled 3 attacks and a dig, and Molly Evans had 1 dig.
Coach Jessica Eason’s Lady Eagles improved to 5-1 in SAC-7 play and 8-4 overall.
