LAKE WACCAMAW- East Columbus edged East Bladen 2-0 Thursday in two marathon sets 26-24 and 32-30 in Three Rivers Conference junior varsity volleyball action.

Sophmore Cheylee Mathis fired in 4 service points, and junior Adrienne Howell knocked in 3 service points as the Lady Eagles fought back from an early 6-0 deficit to tie the set 9-9.  Freshman Merritt Martin put East Bladen ahead 13-10 with a trio of service points.

Mathis slammed in a pair of service points to keep the Lady Eagles up 19-17. Service points from Martin and junior Shanell McMillian lifted East Bladen into a 24-23 lead before East Columbus closed out the set with 3 straight points.

Freshman Alexis Mitchell rallied East Bladen into a 10-8 lead in the second set with a trio of service points. The Lady Gators rode an 11-3 spurt to a 19-13 lead, but Ward delivered a pair of service points to pull the Lady Eagles to within 20-18.

Mitchell drilled in a trio of service points to trim the margin to 23-22. Service points by Mathis, Martin and Howell kept the Lady Eagles alive before East Columbus closed out the match with 3 straight points at 32-30.

Mathis led the Lady Eagles with 8 service points. Martin followed with 6 service points, and Ward dropped in 5 service points. Howell, McMillian and Mitchell finished with 3 service points each.

East Bladen will host Clinton Monday in a non-conference match.
