East Bladen High SchoolELIZABETHTOWN – East Columbus defeated East Bladen 2-1 Tuesday in Three Rivers Conference jayvee volleyball action by set scores of 25-12, 21-25 and 15-8.

East Columbus opened the first set with 8 consecutive service points en route to the 25-12 win.

Sophomore Cheylee Mathis fired in 5 straight service points to give the Lady Eagles a 6-1 lead in Set 2. A pair of service points from freshman Merritt Martin kept East Bladen ahead 14-11.

Service points from Mathis and juniors Adrienne Howell and Shanell McMillian padded the Lady Eagle lead to 20-16. Mathis served out the set at 25-21.

Sophomore Alyssa Futrell knocked in a trio of service points to pull East Bladen to within 8-7 in the final set, but a 7-1 Lady Gator run ended the match.

Mathis led the Lady Eagle attack with 8 service points, 5 aces, 5 kills and 3 digs. Futrell pounded in 4 kills, 5 service points, an ace, a block and had 3 digs. Martin fired in 4 service points and 3 aces.

McMillian knocked in a kill, a service point and had one dig. Sophomore Cheyanne Merritt and Howell tallied one service point each. Freshman Alexis Mitchell had one dig.
