ELIZABETHTOWN – Fairmont edged East Bladen 2-1 Tuesday night in Three Rivers Conference jayvee volleyball action by set scores of 23-25, 25-11 and 15-6.

Junior Adrienne Howell opened the match with 7 straight aces for a 7-0 East lead. Sophmore Cheyanne Merritt drilled in 5 more service points to stretch the Lady Eagle lead to 16-6.

A pair of service points from sophomore Cheylee Mathis padded the lead to 20-9. An 11-point service run pushed Fairmont in front 23-21, before freshman Merritt Martin served out the set with 3 straight aces.

A pair of Martin aces kept East within 4-3 early in the second set. A 16-3 Fairmont run was interrupted by a pair of aces from Howell, but the Lady Tornadoes served out the set.

Fairmont built a 10-6 lead in the deciding set then served out the match.

Howell led the Lady Eagles with 11 aces. Martin fired in 7 aces and a kill. Merritt finished with 5 service points and an ace. Mathis slammed in 3 kills, an ace and 3 service points.

Junior Shanell McMillian hammered in 3 kills and 2 aces for the Lady Eagles, and freshman Alexis Mitchell knocked in 2 kills and 2 aces.

East Bladen will travel to St. Pauls Thursday for a 4:30 match.
