ELIZABETHTOWN – Midway snapped the East Bladen jayvees’ 6-game winning streak Tuesday defeating the Lady Eagles 2-0 in Southeastern Athletic Conference volleyball action by set scores of 25-14 and 25-18.

East Bladen is now 5-2 in league play – both losses to Midway – and 8-5 overall. The Lady Eagles will travel to Clinton Monday.

Sophomore Iveonna “NeNe” Ward started the match by reeling off 5 straight service points for an early 5-0 East lead, but the Lady Raiders rallied to edge ahead 9-7 then 15-9 and 20-12.

A pair of service points from sophomore Mary Frances Sutton kept the Lady Eagles within 11-9 in the 2nd set. Service points from freshman Jenna Brice and Sutton held the margin at 17-13 and 22-17 before Midway closed out the match.

Sutton sparked the East Bladen offense with 15 attacks, 3 kills and 3 service points that included 1ace. Ward rang up 6 service points that included 1 ace and had 3 attacks. Sophomore Martha Simmons hammered in 6 attacks, 1 kill and 1 ace.

Zoe Smith slammed in a kill and had 4 attacks. Freshman Aubrie Nixon knocked in a kill and had 3 attacks. Jenna Brice drilled in an ace and another service point. Sophomore Mollie Tolar powered in a kill and 1 service point, and Molly Evans banged in a kill.

“Tough loss but the girls played their hearts out!” said East Bladen Coach Jessica Eason. “Super proud of this team.”
