DUBLIN – West Bladen defeated East Bladen 2-0 Thursday in Four County Conference junior varsity volleyball action by set scores of 25-21 and 25-22.
Junior Elizabeth Allbright sparked an early West Bladen run with 3 service points and 2 aces. Sophmore Brinkley Collier and junior Mikayla Winebarger smacked in kills during the spurt that produced an 8-2 lead.
Sarah Johnson halted the run with a pair of kills for the Lady Eagles that won service points for Cybil Campbell. Ruth Ward and Faith Johnson slammed in kills to ignite a 7-3 East Bladen run.
Freshman Gracyn Martin drilled in an ace and a service point, freshman Izzy Smith scored on a block and Faith Johnson tied the set 13-13 with an ace.
Allbright recorded a service point, and freshman Lorna Mendell answered with a kill for East. The teams traded points until Winebarger reeled off 2 service points and an ace for a 20-15 West lead.
An Adrienne Howell service point trimmed the margin to 20-17, but Allbright hammered in 2 kills then closed out the set with a service point.
Campbell belted a winning return for East, and a Callie Lewis kill produced a Winebarger service point for West as the teams matched points to begin the second set. Lewis fired in an ace and 3 more service points as West Bladen built a 10-5 lead.
Martin hammered in an ace, and Howell delivered a service point to close the gap to 12-10. Freshman Lexie Corrothers keyed a Lady Knight run with 2 kills that won 2 service points for Allbright as the lead grew to 15-10.
Faith Johnson rallied the Lady Eagles by winning 8 straight service points. The run included 2 aces as East jumped ahead 19-15.
Corrothers answered with 2 service points aided by a Lewis kill that sliced the margin to 19-18. A Smith kill produced a Campbell service point, but West’s Alise Pait dotted the sideline with a kill that started a 3-point service run for Winebarger. A pair of Lewis kills captured the other 2 points that edged West in front 22-21.
Lewis served out the match with 2 service points. Winebarger tipped in the winner on match point.
Lewis led the Lady Knights with 6 service points and 7 kills. Allbright knocked in 7 service points, 2 aces and 2 kills, and Winebarger delivered 6 service points, an ace and 2 kills.
Corrothers added 2 kills and 2 service points, and Pait and freshman Jordan Benson finished with 2 kills each. Collier and Indra Rodriguez had one kill each for the winners.
Faith Johnson racked up a match-high 14 service points for East Bladen to go with 3 aces and a kill. Martin fired in 8 service points and 2 aces, and Campbell tallied 7 service points and a kill.
Smith collected 5 service points, a kill and a block, and Howell finished with 5 service points and an ace for East. Sarah Johnson totaled 3 kills, 2 service points and a block.
Ward added 2 service points and a kill, and Mendell and Abigail Cross had one kill each.
The West Bladen jayvees will travel to Wallace-Rose Hill Thursday, while East Bladen will visit Midway Tuesday at 4:30.
