ELIZABETHTOWN – After dropping the first set, West Bladen fought back to edge East Bladen 2-1 Saturday in Four County Conference jayvee volleyball action by set scores of 15-25, 25-23 and 15-11.
 
In the decisive third set, freshman Lexie Corrothers pounded in a kill to start a 3-point service run by sophmore Brinkley Collier that gave West Bladen a 6-3 lead. Collier belted in an ace to end the run.
 
Sophmore Callie Lewis and junior Mikayla Winebarger knocked in kills to keep the Lady Knight lead at 8-5. Ruth Ward pulled the Lady Eagles even at 8-8 with a pair of service points, before a Winebarger kill edged West ahead 9-8.
 
Cybil Campbell dotted the end line with a winning return to tie the set a final time at 9-9, before Winebarger delivered 3 straight service points as the Lady Knights grew a 13-9 lead.
 
Campbell’s service point trimmed the margin to 13-11, but Lewis smacked a service winner to secure match point for West Bladen.
 
The Lady Knights grabbed an early 5-1 lead in the first set as Corrothers capped a 3-point service run with an ace, and Lewis and Winebarger belted in kills.
 
Freshman Lorna Mendell ignited a 6-1 Lady Eagle run with a pair of service points, and Campbell and Faith Johnson slammed in kills to win a pair of service points for Ward.
 
Corrothers tied the set 7-7 with a kill, but an Izzy Smith kill kicked off a 3-point service run by freshman Gracyn Martin that vaulted East in front 11-7.
 
A Corrothers kill and return winner plus a Collier service point brought West to within 16-15, but another winning return by Campbell started a string of 8 straight service points by Martin. Martin drilled in an ace on set point.
 
Adrienne Howell’s service point gave East an early 2-1 lead in the second set. Collier looped in a return to win a service point for Winebarger. Mendell swatted in a kill, and Campbell whistled in an ace for a 4-3 Lady Eagle lead.
 
Lewis reeled off 3 straight service points to put West up 7-4, but Mendell smashed in a kill, and Johnson’s service point closed the gap to 7-6.
 
Collier and freshman Jordan Benson banged in aces, and Benson added another service point as the Lady Knight lead stretched to 12-7. Kills by Winebarger and Collier kept the margin at 16-11.
 
Johnson sliced the lead to 16-15 with a trio of service points that included an ace, and Mendell batted in a kill.
 
Corrothers halted the run with a kill, and Collier’s service point made it 18-15. Martin tied the set 19-19 with a pair of service points.
 
A Lewis kill won a service point for Corrothers, but Campbell cracked a return winner that captured a service point for Ward and tied the set 21-21.
 
Smith’s service point edged East in front 23-22, but West won a side-out and Winebarger served out the set winning the last 2 points.
 
Winebarger led the Lady Knights with 6 service points and 4 kills. Corrothers racked up 5 kills, 3 service points and an ace. Collier contributed 4 service points, 3 kills, and 2 aces.
 
Lewis finished with 4 service points and 3 kills for West, and Benson added a service point and an ace.
 
Martin topped all servers with 12 service points and 3 aces for East Bladen. Ward tallied 6 service points, and Campbell totaled 4 kills, a service point and an ace.
 
Mendell knocked in 3 kills and 2 service points for the Lady Eagles. Johnson tallied 3 service points, an ace and a kill. Smith added a kill and a service point, and Howell had a service point.
 
West Bladen will travel to Wallace-Rose Hill Monday, while East Bladen will close out their regular season Monday at Clinton.
