FAYETTEVILLE – Westover edged West Bladen 15-12 in the third and final set Wednesday to capture a 2-1 victory in non-conference jayvee volleyball action.
Westover edged West Bladen 25-23 in the first set, and the Lady Knights battled back to take the second set 25-23.
Ashlyn Cox led the Lady Knights with 6 service points, 2 kills and 2 aces. Sophmore Alyssa Suggs knocked in 3 kills, 3 aces and a service point. Teammate Caroline Brisson fired in 4 service points and 2 kills.
Freshman Lauren Pait racked up 4 service points and 2 aces for West Bladen. Haleigh Fields slammed in 5 kills. Freshman Hannah Pait pounded in 3 service points and 2 kills.
Taylor West hammered in 2 kills, 2 aces and a service point. Junior Erica Storms tallied a service point, a kill and an ace. Kaylee Page added 2 service points and a kill for the Lady Knights.
“The girls played a great game,” said Coach Gaye Davis. “They never gave up and fought hard. I am proud of the way they played.”
West Bladen travels to Fairmont Thursday for their Three Rivers Conference opener at 4:30.
