Bladen County’s Kayla Thompson is back on the professional golf tour. Although the Ladies’ PGA Tour is still at a stoppage due to the COVID-19 situation, some area tournaments are being played.

Last week Thompson participated in the Energy Producer’s Inc. Texas Women’s Open at the Old American Golf Course at The Colony, Texas. Some LPGA players such as Stacy Lewis, Brittany Lang and Gerina Piller were also in the field. Kayla shot rounds of 74-76-76=226 to take 48th place ($515) and win her third check in a row.

This week (June 9-12) Thompson played in the Women’s All Pro Tournament Hurricane Creek Classic in Anna, Texas and failed to make the cut as she shot 79-76-77=232. She missed the cut by 6 strokes.

Thompson graduated from West Bladen High School and UNC Wilmington.
