Bladen County’s Kayla Thompson, playing in the first round of the Kathy Whitworth Championship in Trophy City, Texas, shot 35-35=70 and is tied for 14th place.

Thompson had eight pars and one birdie on the front nine and four pars, three birdies and two bogeys on the back nine.

Leading the Annika Women’s All Pro Tour tournament is Camilla Boyd of California with a 66.

The tournament is a 72 hole event running thru Saturday.

Thompson is a graduate of West Bladen High School and UNC Wilmington. She lives in Clarkton.
