hurricanematthewoct3Residents of coastal North Carolina, including Bladen County, are encouraged to keep a watchful eye on Hurricane Matthew this week.  According to the National Hurricane Center, there is still a great deal of uncertainty with the forecast track for this storm.

The National Hurricane Center warns that it is still too early to forecast whether or not the storm will remain off the North Carolina coast. According to the National Weather Service, Hurricane Matthew is a large storm so impacts from the storm could potentially include such things as heavy rain and flash flooding, strong winds, coastal flooding, and significant erosion and over-wash from high surf.

As of 11 a.m., Hurricane Matthew is a category 4 hurricane and is currently located at  15.6 North, 75.0 West, 330 miles southeast of Kingston, Jamaica. Maximum sustained winds are 140 miles per hour.

The storm is forecast to remain a major storm and possibly become a category 2 storm by Thursday or Friday.
