Kerry Shipman

Dublin – On May 16, Kerry L. Shipman Sr., champion of underrepresented communities and  minorities, will be the graduation speaker for the 2017 College Readiness class at Bladen Community College.

A high school dropout, Shipman received his high school credential through the College Readiness program at Bladen Community College. This accomplishment poised Shipman to complete a bachelor’s degree in sociology at Shaw University in Raleigh and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Phoenix. He is currently a second year law student at the Charleston School of Law where he serves as a Senator in the Student Bar Association.

Shipman adheres to his make it happen testimonial as a motivational speaker and mentor for students. “No matter how many times you may fall,” he counseled, “just get back up and fight! You are stronger than any obstacle that you face.”

“(I want to be) the agent of change to address the inequality in education, income, health, and the professional workforce in the African-American community,” remarked Shipman.

The College Readiness graduation ceremony is Tuesday, May 16, at 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium on the Dublin campus of BCC. For more information about securing a high school credential, contact Travis Locklear at 910-879-5587.
