Kuraray employees of the Fayetteville site hosted 30 Elizabethtown Middle School students, to learn about pollinators and how to plant a pollinator garden, at their Elizabethtown warehouse.  Students learned the safety rules that are followed at the Fayetteville site, watched a safety presentation, and received safety glasses and gloves for them to keep.  The students also had the option of wearing protective overalls.  During the presentation, the students learned techniques to avoid stings or bites from insects.

Instructors presented on how to prepare plots for pollinator gardens, planting flowers, and seed planting requirements.  Approximately 200 plants conducive to attracting butterflies, bees and hummingbirds were planted.  Several pounds of native wildflower and sunflower seeds were planted to supply the necessities for the pollinating habitat.  A blue bird house was also erected as the finishing touch to our garden.  As a bonus, the students received a small packet of native seeds to take home and start their own gardens.  One student stated this was the best field trip ever, because they got to do something!

Event staff in this project was a combination of Kuraray and On-Board employees.  Kuraray employee participants included Michael Jackson, Debbie Herndon, Greg Jones, Jia He, and Ross Crews.  On-Board employee participants included De White and Shirley Hester.  A special thanks to Teresa Jackson for capturing the accomplishments in photographs and LSH Preservations and Logan Herndon for assisting in the plot preparation and flower donations.
