WILMINGTON – East Bladen grad Lacey Suggs scored the 1,000th point of her UNC-Wilmington career Friday night as her Lady Seahawks defeated Northeastern University 61-48 in Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball action.

Suggs nailed a 3-point shot early in the second half to reach the 1,000-point mark. The basket gave UNC-Wilmington a 27-19 lead. The senior guard sank 4 free throws, a jump shot and a lay-up as the Lady Seahawks grabbed an early 12-6 lead.

The White Lake native fired in 3 more free throws and a lay-up in the second period to keep UNC-W on top 24-19 at halftime. After draining the 3-point shot to begin the second half, Suggs drove for a lay-up and a 32-21 lead at the 7:58 mark.

Suggs connected on 5 of 6 shots from the field and made 7 of her 8 free throw attempts. She grabbed 6 rebounds and had 2 steals as she became the 17th player in UNC-W program history to reach the 1,000 point-milestone.

It is the 7th time in her last 9 games that Suggs has scored in double-figures and she has 5 or more rebounds in 8 of her last 10 games.

The Lady Seahawks will celebrate Senior Day Sunday at 1 p.m. when they entertain Hofstra in their final home game of the season.
