Alan Pittman of White Lake made a presentation to the White Lake Board of Commissioners during their regular meeting Tuesday evening.  Pittman plead for the Board to “turn the saving of White Lake over to a 501C3 organization or at least an advisory committee. The reasoning behind this request is that it appears nothing constructive has been done or planned since the initial treatment of the lake in May 2018.”

After Pittman’s 15 minute presentation, Mayor Womble responded to his comment that “nothing constructive has been done” by reading out a month-by-month list of contacts made, action items discussed, meetings held, agencies contacted, for the time period of May – November of 2018.  At that point, Womble stated he would not continue to read the 3 page, type-written list of things the Town has done toward lake water restoration.

Womble also noted that an advisory committee was formed and continues to meet.  In addition, a second workshop will be held on Thursday, August 12th at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall and all citizens are encouraged to attend.

Eddie Madden presents to Town of White Lake

Eddie Madden, Town Manager for Elizabethtown provided information on the newly created position for a marketing director for the Town of Elizabethtown.  As part of the duties of the position, the marketing director will provide administrative support to the Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.  Madden shared that “the county as a whole has great assets that need to be marketed”.  Terri Dennison has been hired and will begin her duties on October 28th.

In other business, the Board approved Utility Releases ($1,072.54), Tax Releases ($110.69); re-appointed Jake Womble and Dean Hilton to the Planning & Zoning Board of Adjustment; extended LRCOG agreement for updating Zoning Ordinances to 1/31/20; adopted a resolution supporting Involuntary Commitment Transportation Services for Bladen County; adopted a resolution supporting a grant application for Wastewater Asset Inventory and Assessment Project; amended and adopted resolution for Pay Plan and Overtime Pay provisions for Fair Labor Standards Act; and appointed Finance Officer as Primary Agent for FEMA designation of applicant agency.

The Board adjourned the meeting until Thursday, September 12th at 6:30 p.m. so that the Commissioners may attend the Lake Water Restoration Project Workshop.
