The latest updates about COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, in North Carolina were provided this afternoon by the NC Governor Roy Cooper and the Coronavirus Task Force. The COVID-19 case numbers continue to increase and the vaccine plans were explained during the officials’ presentation.

Gov. Cooper said, “I’m asking every North Carolinian to double down on our prevention efforts and protect each other by wearing a mask, being responsible, following the protocols and making good decisions.”

The Bladen County Health Department released the daily COVID-19 numbers today as well. View the COVID-19 update below.

Vaccines were the main topic of discussion for the task force today. NCDHHS Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen said, “Vaccines are available for everyone but supplies are limited.”

Cohen confirmed NC is currently in Phase one of the vaccine plan. She stated, “Phase 1b will be opened in groups, beginning in January with people ages 65-74.”

Anyone who thinks they might have COVID-19 or has been near someone with COVID-19 should get tested. Check the NCDHHS tool, My Symptoms, at ncdhhs.gov/symptoms. Dr. Teresa (Terri) Duncan announced the Bladen County Health Department will continue to offer COVID-19 testing at the health department in January.

According to the CDC, the safest way to celebrate the new year is to celebrate at home with the people who live with you or virtually with friends and family. Staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others.
