Law enforcement officers are a unique group of men and women who are sworn to enforce the laws of the state of North Carolina and to protect citizens and their property from crime, to investigate crimes that occur and apprehend those responsible for committing crimes. According to indeed.com, the average salary a law enforcement officer can expect to earn in North Carolina is about $35,000. However, they caution that salaries for law enforcement officers vary throughout the state.

Bladenonline.com decided to explore the average salaries for law enforcement in Bladen County.  For a law enforcement officer joining the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, the starting salary for a patrol deputy is $31,475; for a detention officer the starting salary is $26,144; and for a telecommunicator the starting salary is $26,144.

In the town of Bladenboro, the salary range for a patrol officer is $29,522 to $38,735. New officers just out of Basic Law Enforcement Training traditionally start out at $29,522. Town Administrator John O’Daniel said the salary for an officer based on experience is at the discretion of the Bladenboro Town Board of Commissioners.

“We do not currently have a Detective, but the salary range would be at the discretion of the Board of Commissioners,” said O’Daniel.

In the town of White Lake, the starting salary for a patrol officer is Grade 14 with a hiring rate of $33,746.00 and a maximum salary of $52,306, according to Town Clerk Brenda Clark. The town of White Lake does not have a detective position.

Clark said the starting salary for a law enforcement officer is determined by years of work experience, education, certifications and other qualifications of the applicant therefore; starting salary based on 1 year’s experience is variable depending on those factors and available funding in the town’s budget.

Elizabethtown Town Manager Eddie Madden submitted the salary range for the Elizabethtown Police Department as follows:

If a Police Officer has experience the following hiring rates are used:

Those who wish to join the North Carolina Highway Patrol and pursue a career as a State Trooper, can expect a hiring range of $34,000 to $53,000, according to Governmentjobs.com.
