Jones Lake State Park has released its March program itinerary. Learn about butterflies, park rangers, snakes and more with a visit to Jones Lake.

Following is a list of programs the local state park will offer in March. Programs are free of charge and open to the public.

The park is located at 4117 NC 242 North, Elizabethtown. For information about the programs, call 910-588-4550.

SNAKES
March 4, 2 p.m.

Ever wonder what snakes’ species are at home in eastern North Carolina? Which ones are venomous? Join a park ranger at the Visitor Center at 2 p.m. to explore the various snakes in this area and the other unique species found throughout the park.

BUTTERFLIES
March 11, 2 p.m.

Join a park ranger for a discussion about butterflies. Butterflies are among the most beautiful creatures in nature. Discussion topics will include distinguishing features (ID), what they eat, their range and unique behavioral characteristics. Participants should meet at the Visitor Center at 2 p.m.

CAROLINA BAY HIKE
March 18, 10 a.m.

Join a park ranger for a hike through the bay forest at Jones Lake State Park and discover why this environment is unique. Discussion during the hike will include the flora and fauna of the forest, and why Carolina Bays are important. Participants should meet at the Visitor Center at 10 a.m. It’s suggested that hikers bring bug spray, water and hiking shoes.

Hats of a Ranger/Hike
March 25, 2 p.m.

Join a park ranger for a hike through the bay forest at Jones Lake State Park and discover why this environment is unique.
