There are hundreds of cases in Bladen County of damaged homes and property due to Hurricane Florence. Some residents have reported being denied for assistance and/or taken advantage of by contractors or insurance agencies.

The Golden Leaf grant has funded a free to the public In-person Civil Legal Relief Assistance Clinic with attorneys. This clinic will be offered twice in April. The dates are April 9 and April 18 and will be located at the Bladen Disaster Recovery Team headquarters located at 108 South Cypress Street in Elizabethtown according to Disaster Legal Aid of NC representative, Emma Smiley.

The attorneys will be on site to answer legal questions regarding issues residence have faced due to the devastation from Hurricane Florence. Legal Aid of NC will answer some legal questions pertaining to FEMA appeals for denied cases, housing issues for renters, people taken advantage of by contractors and insurance claims denied and/or canceled insurance policies according to Smiley.  Judge Dale Deese will be the supervising attorney over the clinic.

Bladen County residents with legal questions due to damages received to property by Hurricane Florence may attend the clinic free of charge. Rev. Jason Williams and Ms. Emma Smiley asked anyone interested in attending the clinic to please call 910-862-7811 or 910–862-7832 to schedule an appointment.
