Improvements for Leinwand Park in Elizabethtown are progressing nicely as workers have finished installing a children’s playground and the picnic shelter is now under construction. The improvements for Leinwand Park are being constructed across  from the park on property located on Swanzy Street which was donated to the town.

Town Manager Eddie Madden said the pouring of concrete for the sidewalk and curbing is anticipated to begin next week.

“We are waiting for Duke Power for installation of the parking lot lights,” said Madden.

Smith Brothers Paving is expected to begin paving the walking paths in the next two to three weeks.

“We’re hoping we’ll be significantly complete in 90 days,” said Madden of the project.

The improvements are part of a $215,000 Parks and Recreation Trust Fund grant. Madden said the town was able to use in-kind donations of land for the town’s match for the grant.

“Most of the work for Leinwand Park will conclude when this project is complete,” said Madden.

He did say the town has budgeted funds to construct a concession stand, restroom, and storage building for Dixie Youth. Madden said that project is not part of the PARTF grant.

The original plans for improvements to Leinwand Park  also called for the construction of a water feature at the park. However, Madden said that the water feature was too cost prohibitive for the project.
