Dear Editor,

Most of these Southern farm boys didn’t own slaves.

Slavery was a system mostly created by the European, African Black and Northern slave traders that they were born in to. It was a system that many Southern Christians would like to have done away with immediately if it wouldn’t have bankrupted the South.

It was starting to fall out of favor even in the South and could have been ended without blood shed had not the hot heads North and South ruled the day. Most of these poor dead boys fought protecting their land from the invasion by the Northern Armies.

Silent Sam was erected to honor the young boys that left UNC to fight protecting their country and died. Shame on these radicals for desecrating their memorials.

Sincerely,

William Settlemeyer Jr.
