Elizabethtown – Liberty Tax Service is pitching in to help Lumberton area victims of Hurricane Matthew. Our offices located at 1107-D West Broad Street will collect bedding, clothing, toiletries and pantry supplies for families who have been evacuated due to flooding. Residents and businesses are encouraged to bring donations to the offices, which are open Tuesday through Saturday afternoon from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Items to consider include:

*Clean clothing and shoes of all sizes

*Toiletries, including shampoos, soaps, toothpaste and toothbrushes

*Clean blankets

*Baby diapers and baby wipes

*Pantry staples, such as cereals and non-perishable food items

*Water

*Small toys for young children

Liberty Tax will deliver donated items to the shelter at East Bladen High School and the American Red Cross, so that families can easily access things they need as they try to weather the storm.

“It is heartbreaking to see such damage and loss,” said Angelia Alden, owner of Liberty Tax offices in Wallace, Elizabethtown, Whiteville and Lumberton. “We know that with the help of our customers and others, we can make a difference.”

Liberty Tax understands that this is a difficult time for hurricane victims. We encourage those dealing with damage or destruction to keep track of receipts and out-of-pocket expenses related to the storm. The IRS allows tax deductions for casualty losses, but good recordkeeping is essential.

To find a local Liberty Tax office, call 866-871-1040 or visit www.LibertyTax.com. Liberty Tax does take appointments; however, they are not necessary.
