Leland, NC – “Without Charter Day School, I would not have the drive within me to achieve what I have thus far.” – Katelyn Bright
Former Charter Day School standout, Katelyn Bright, a rising senior at Brunswick County Early College High, has been accepted into Raleigh’s prestigious Governor’s School for English. Governor’s School is a five-and-a-half-week summer residential program for, “intellectually gifted high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two campuses. The curriculum focuses on the exploration of the most recent ideas and concepts in each discipline, and does not involve credit, tests, or grades.” It is the oldest statewide program of its kind in the nation.
Lesley Bright, Katelyn’s mother, commented, “We feel that Katelyn had a positive learning experience while attending Charter Day School. Direct instruction and smaller class size were beneficial in developing her desire to learn by building strong relationships with her teachers. As she advanced into middle school, her relationships with several teachers grew, thus creating a strong desire to learn. It also instilled in her that it takes self-discipline to achieve the goals and high standards she has set for herself.”
After Governor’s School, Katelyn will finish her Associates in Science & Arts through the five-year program offered at Brunswick County Early College High School. She plans to attend NCSU for her Bachelors in Political Science and then UNC or Campbell for law school. Katelyn hopes to one day become a civil rights lawyer. She was also selected as a marshal for the 2017 graduation.
