Bladen County is under a Tornado Watch until 2 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2020
Monday evening Bladen County as well as the Towns of Clarkton and White Lake issued a State of Emergency to protect citizens from hazardous weather conditions predicted with the latest weather briefing. Steven Pfaff, Warning Coordination Meteorologist with the National Weather Service, gave a final weather briefing at 5:30 this evening.
Here’s the update Pfaff provided:
- A Tornado Watch is now in effect for Georgetown, Horry, Bladen, New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender, and Columbus counties (and adjacent coastal waters) effective until 200 AM EDT Aug 4, 2020
- Isais is expected to be at or near hurricane strength when it reaches the coast of northeast SC and southest NC in a few hours and hurricane conditions are expected in the warning area this evening.
- Storm Surge Warning remains in effect for Brunswick, Horry, and Georgetown counties for potential surge of 3 to 5 ft inundation
- Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for a large swath of 4-6″ of rain with some higher amounts in a few locations
- Weather conditions will improve during Tuesday morning as the storm quickly accelerates away toward the north-northeast
