Leland, NC – School is officially back in session for roughly 2,400 students at the top scoring Charter Day School, Columbus Charter School and South Brunswick Charter School. Parents and students braved heavy rains to pack into each campus early on Tuesday morning. The schools are part of the Roger Bacon Academy network of charter schools that focus on direct instruction and a classical curriculum. Each charter school routinely tops the ranks for academic performance in their respective counties.

Caitlin Byrd, a fourth grader at Charter Day School, commented “I was a little nervous at first but everyone said my teacher was really nice and when I met her I wasn’t nervous anymore. I like Charter Day School because all the teachers are nice. This year I’m excited to learn lots of Latin, math and science!”

“I feel good and excited about the new year. I’m especially excited to learn Latin and math!” added Annabelle Lopez, a fifth grader at Charter Day School.

Parents are matching their kid’s excitement. Jennifer Shires, a Charter Day School parent, exclaimed, “It was so exciting to return to this amazing school for our third year. The welcoming atmosphere from the teachers, staff, and administration was comforting for the students as well as the parents. My son’s 2nd grade year is going to be great. It is such a privilege to attend Charter Day School.”

Steve Smith, Headmaster for Charter Day School and Columbus Charter School commented, “We are looking forward to another terrific year and the classrooms look fantastic! “We are very excited to start our 4th year of teaching and learning here at South Brunswick Charter School! Our staff is fully prepared and looking forward to another great year!” stated Michelle Mena, Headmaster for South Brunswick Charter School. In just its second year, South Brunswick Charter School was the highest performing school in Brunswick County on State EOG (End of Grade) tests.
