Jane Johnson has announced that she will be retiring after 43 years of service in the banking industry.  She said Tuesday, March 15, will be her last official day on the teller line at BB&T Bank in Elizabethtown. Her co-workers held a reception to mark the occasion on Wednesday.

She said of her pending retirement, “It is a good feeling. It’s been a long time coming but it’s finally here.”

Johnson said that when she began her career, the bnak was named Waccamaw Bank, then it changed to United Carolina Bank and then it became BB&T.

“When I started, I was part-time for two weeks then moved to full time,” said Johnson.

Over the years, she has worked in almost every department in the bank. Johnson fondly recounted the various positions she has held and departments she has served. They include the savings department, customer service, loan department, and she has worked as a teller then a verified teller and senior teller. She said she finally moved into the role of Teller Supervisor.

Johnson said, “I loved the teller the best.”

She said the teller was her favorite because she could meet clients face-to-face and hear their concerns or hear their needs and then guide them to the bank products best suited to their needs.

Johnson said in addition to enjoying spending time with her grandchildren she will also enjoy spending time working with the church.

“One thing I always want to do is help where I’m needed,” said Johnson.
