United Way’s annual Day of Caring is a volunteer event that brings the community together to create a positive impact on the nonprofits and human service providers that help those in need. Volunteers also tackle projects at local schools, churches, and city parks. The event is held annually on Friday of Mother’s Day weekend.

Three hundred thirty-five volunteers provided 986 service hours to ensure United Way’s 2024 Day of Caring was successful! Projects throughout Bladen, Hoke, and Robeson County provided a value of $30,527.27 in volunteer time. United Way hopes to increase those stats for 2024 Day of Caring.

LUMBERTON, NC (2/14/2025) – Lumber River United Way’s annual Day of Caring is scheduled for Friday, May 9, 2025. LRUW is seeking community projects that unite volunteers to positively impact the nonprofits and human service providers who help those in need. Day of Caring is an incredible opportunity to tackle large and small projects at your agency or school that otherwise may not get accomplished. We want to help you plan creative, meaningful projects that volunteers will enjoy and wish to sustain and impact those you engage and our community overall. Projects are to be completed on Friday, May 9, 2025.

Local nonprofits are encouraged to apply at lumberriveruw.org/day-caring for the 2025 LRUW Day of Caring application and volunteer opportunities. Lumberton Chevrolet Buick GMC Hummer & GRAIL sponsors the event.

“United Way is giving volunteers the power to give back to their communities through our annual Day of Caring. Day of Caring 2025 is highlighting cancer, specifically early detection. The 15th Annual Knit-In/Sew-In will concentrate on sewing pillowcases for breast cancer patients, homeless students, and seniors in the skilled nursing facilities,” said Director of Community Impact Tomeika Munn.

Individuals and businesses unable to volunteer for more significant projects may consider stopping by Lumberton Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Hummer to sew a pillowcase for patients, students, and seniors for a 15-minute volunteer project! Additional volunteer opportunities include dropping off nonperishable food items at Lumberton Chevrolet Buick GMC Hummer and the City of Lumberton Town Hall on the day of the event from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Lumber River United Way strives to create positive, lasting change for needy people. We are a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to solving the most pressing health and human service needs by assisting people in Bladen, Hoke, and Robeson Counties who need help the most.
