madeinshadecarshowThe 18th annual Made in the Shade Open Car and Truck Show is on tap for Saturday on the lawn in front of San Jose Restaurant in Elizabethtown. Registration is from 8 a.m. until noon and judging will begin at about 10 a.m. or as soon as each row gets full, said Wayne Dove, of Classic Cruisers Car Club.

Dove said the club is expecting about 300 entries. Registration is $25 and dash plaques will be given to the first 250 entries. There will be door prizes and a 50-50 drawing. A portion of the proceeds raised go to benefit several charities in Bladen County.

The event is sponsored by Lumberton Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac and Clarks Auto glass and Truck Tops of Whiteville.

Dove said that folks are encouraged to come out and spend the day. Food vendors will be on hand offering fried chicken, shaved ice, funnel and homemade ice cream, said Dove.

Dove said trophies will be handed out at 4 p.m.  There are two Best of Show awards this year as well as Best Ford and Best GM. Other awards include Best Chenille, Best Camaro, Best Mopar, Best Full Size Truck, Best Street Rod, Best original, Best Foreign, Best Corvette ’53-82, Best Corvette ’84 and Newer, Best Mustang ’64-’85, Best Mustang ’86 and Newer, Best Other, Best Rat Rod, Most Unusual, Ladies Choice, Longest Distance, Best Host Vehicle, Oldest Vehicle (not homemade), Club Participation (must have registered vehicle in show).

Dove said the show draws entries from as far away as Tennessee, South Carolina and Virginia.

Everyone is encouraged to come out and enjoy the day under the pecan trees.
