The attorney representing the man who is charged with the shooting death of Lonnie Level Smith was in Bladen County Superior Court on Monday. According to attorney Brooke Mangum, her client, Harold Eugene Swindell, has received a plea offer from the Bladen County District Attorney’s Office.

Mangum informed Bladen County Resident Superior Court Judge Douglas Sasser the Bladen County District Attorney’s Office offered a plea arrangement and it has been conveyed to Swindell. According to Mangum, the District Attorney’s Office has agreed to allow Swindell until August to make a decision as to whether or not he will accept the agreement. No details of the plea arrangement were given in court and his case was set for the August court session.

Swindell is accused of shooting Smith to death in May 2017 at Oakdale Homes apartment complex in Clarkton. The shooting occurred following an altercation in the Oakdale Homes parking lot and Swindell turned himself in to authorities the following Saturday.
