A Sunday afternoon trip to White Lake has turned tragic for a group of friends from Godwin.
John Junior Godwin, 54, of the Godwin community, was reported missing at White Lake at 12:45 p.m. according to Bladen County Assistant Coroner Ken Clark. He said, at the time the call was made to the Bladen County 911 Call Center, Godwin had been missing for about one hour.
Clark said a search of the lake was conducted and at 3:30 p.m. Godwin’s body was found in the water near the pier at Goldston’s Beach.
Bladen County EMS, Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, White Lake Police Department, White Lake Fire Department, White Lake Water Rescue, Robeson County, Lumberton EMS, and NC State Parks officials all responded to the scene.
