The Memorial Day weekend was marred for one family after a Columbus County man was found floating in a pound near Orrum on Monday, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was identified as Roy Dale Ammons, 54, of Arthur Collier Road. According to officials, Ammons’ vehicle was spotted parked near the pond and a passerby went to investigate and found Ammons floating in the pond.

According to reports, a boat and fishing gear were found with the truck. An autopsy is planned however, officials suspect Ammons to have drowned.
