On Wednesday night a passenger in a car undergoing a road check by the North Carolina Highway Patrol exited the vehicle and walked away. The  traffic check was conducted at the intersection of Marsh Road and NC 41. According to the Highway Patrol the man remained at large on Thursday afternoon.

Trooper G. White explained that after obtaining information from the vehicle’s occupants he sat down in his patrol vehicle and then the passenger fled from the scene.

“When I walked back to the car he was gone,” said Trooper White.

The vehicle was stopped for a seat belt violation, according to Trooper White. It was learned by officers during the road check, the passenger, Ashley Wade Conner, 37, of Clarkton, had an outstanding warrant for a parole violation. Trooper White said Conner also had other outstanding warrants but he was not sure what they were. When officers first questioned Conner, they were not aware he had outstanding warrants.

Conner entered the woods in the vicinity of the stop and as of the time of this article, he has not been reported as located. The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in searching for Conner.

Trooper White said Conner is a heavy set white male and was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and jeans. Anyone with any information as to the whereabouts of Conner is asked to call the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office at 910-862-6960 or 911.
