A Duplin County man pled guilty to felony breaking and entering and attempted larceny on Monday in Bladen County Superior Court.  James Calvin King, of Teachey, appeared before Judge Douglas Sasser and pled guilty to felony breaking and entering and attempted larceny.

In court, King admitted these charges were in violation of his probation. Judge Sasser sentenced King to 15 to 27 months for the felony larceny charge which will begin at the expiration of any sentence currently being served. King was sentenced to 9 to 20 months on the attempted larceny charge which will be served at the expiration of the prior sentence.

King’s attorney, James Caviness of Chadbourn, asked the court to consider allowing King to have work release. Bladen County Assistant District Attorney Quentin McGee told the court the state is against granting work release. Judge Sasser said any decision regarding work release would be left up to the North Carolina Department of Corrections.

McGee told the court that on Oct. 24, 2016, at 2:27 p.m. Bladen County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrews was dispatched to a home on US Highway 701 in reference to a breaking and entering in progress.  McGee said Deputy Andrews encountered NC Highway Patrol Trooper McVicker who had a vehicle stopped on the road leading to the home.

McGee said the homeowner arrived and stopped and inquired of the driver of the vehicle what he was doing there. The driver said he dropped a man off to inquire about a job, according to McGee.

The homeowner drove up to the house blowing the horn and noticed the storage building had been entered and called 911. King was apprehended by officers on the roadside. McGee said law enforcement officers spoke with Mr. Hancock, who as driving the vehicle King arrived in, and he admitted to dropping King off at the residence. McGee said all of the items taken were returned.
