Smiles, laughter and fun times were all found at this year’s Bladen County Special Olympics. Bladen County law enforcement started the Torch Run around 9 am at the courthouse and ended at the school’s football field. Opening Ceremonies started a parade of all the athletes, with the flag flying from the Elizabethtown Fire Department, the colors presented, Miss Bladenboro Lindsey Herring singing the national anthem with some of the athletes, along with students from East Bladen High School, and West Bladen High School students helped by singing the song. Tacoma “Taco” Amberger was remembered  and the games were dedicated in his honor.

Ms. Gaye Davis, West Bladen Dream Team, and others led the games for the event. There was softball, walks, runs, jumps and even more. Bladenboro Middle School Beta Club ran the Olympic Town. There was also face painting, food donated by Burger King, water donated by First Bank, and a DJ making it a really exciting time.

Mrs. Elaine McIntyre, volunteers and the athletes have pulled off a very successful event.
