Marcus Cyril McKoy Charged with Murder

Marcus Cyril McKoy of Elizabethtown was arrested at the Bladen County Law Enforcement Center on June 10, 2020, and charged with felony first-degree murder of David “D.J.” Leon Swindell Jr.

According to Chief Tony Parrish with Elizabethtown Police Department, McKoy turned himself in at the law enforcement center on Wednesday evening. No bond was set for McKoy at the time of his arrest according to the court documents signed by Magistrate Robert L. Kinlaw on June 10, 2020.

McKoy waived his rights to court-appointed counsel at the first appearance with the Honorable Judge William F. Fairley preceding on June 11, 2020, in Bladen County District Court. McKoy’s family will obtain counsel for his defense, according to the court documents.

According to Elizabethtown Police Department, the victim, Swindell, was found shot to death Sunday afternoon, May 24, 2020, at a residence on Silent Alley behind Mount Zion AME Zion Church, which is off Martin Luther King Drive in Elizabethtown.

Law enforcement with the Elizabethtown Police Department investigated the crime.
