A kind and gentle soul, a gracious and loving lady, Martha Mitchell Potter, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at the age of 86. She was born January 13, 1934 to Charles Gaston Mitchell, Sr. and Evelyn HiteMitchell, living all of her wonderful life in the small community of Kelly.

     Martha is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Horace Henry Potter; son, Phillip Hite Potter; sister, Miriam Clark; sisters-in-law, Catherine Mitchell and Donnette Mitchell; brothers, Bob Mitchell and Charles Mitchell; and brothers-in-law, Dewey Barnhill and Lou Wallace.

     Martha is survived by her daughter, Anne Potter Bullard (Dennis); sons, Gregory Horace Potter and Michael Henry Potter (Jennifer); grandchildren, Heather Robinson (Richard), Shannon Edwards (Matthew), Blair Potter, Reid Potter, Macey Potter, Marlee Potter, Quinn Potter, Kassidy Jones (Roy), and Karrye Chadwick (Matthew); great grandchildren, Caitlin Robinson, Andrew Robinson, Austin Robinson, Evan Edwards, Bayleigh Sykes, Jocelyn Sykes, JR Sykes, Rylee Chadwick, Corben Chadwick and NoraChadwick, sisters Marie Medlin (Ken) and Ginny Meyers (Dennis); brother, Terry Mitchell; and many extended family.

     Filled with kindness, compassion and a Christian spirit, Martha welcomed everyone she met into her wide circle of close knit family and friends. When her children were growing up their home was a gathering place for the neighborhood kids. Martha was a unique lady who had an eye for beauty and could take anything and make something special. Her home and yard were evidence of this talent. Martha was a fabulous cook and loved nothing more than entertaining for family gatherings. She never let anything go to waste! Marthas life was dedicated to God, family and the community Martha so loved. Her radiant smile and joy in life will be remembered.

     Due to the current health issues in our country, a private family graveside funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2020 at Garden of Memories Cemetery with the Rev. Allen Murray conducting the service.
