Elizabethtown – Yvonka A. Martin of Baldwin Branch Missionary Baptist Church will deliver her initial sermon at Baldwin Branch on Sunday, September 17th,  at 5 p.m.

Ms. Martin is the daughter of Evangelist Annie Smith and Baldwin Branch Trustee Chairman Walter Rhodie Sr.  She was born July 16, 1968, in Bladen County.  Yvonka graduated from East Bladen High School in Elizabethtown and continued her education at Bladen Community College in Dublin where she obtained an associate degree in Early Childhood Education.  She was married to Johnnie Council on August 6, 1989.  They have four children: Jessica, Jasmine, Johnnie III and Jerome and two grandchildren: Michael and Angelique.

Additionally, Ms. Martin received an associate degree in theology from the NC Theological Seminary – Bladen County Chapter located on the campus of Baldwin Branch.  Her plan is to continue her Biblical studies in pursuit of a Doctorate of Theology under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Louie Boykin.

Yvonka begin working in the church at an early age singing with her brothers and sister.  Today she continues to sing as a member of the Baldwin Branch Praise Ensemble and the United Voices Choir.

Baldwin Branch is located at 4047 NC 242 Highway South in Elizabethtown.
