Bladen County’s Mary Caitlin Campbell finished 23rd Friday in the 10th Annual USA Powerlifting Raw National Championships Friday in Orlando, FL.
Campbell lifted a total of 405 kilograms (891 pounds) in her 3 events. A competitor gets 3 lifts at squat, 3 lifts at bench-press and 3 deadlifts. The best lift of the three attempts counts as the lift for that event.
“I got 2 out of 3 attempts for each lift,” said Campbell. “I pulled all 3 of my deadlifts, but I lost my balance on the first and it didn’t count. Overall it was a huge learning experience, and I’m happy with how it went for my first ever National meet and 2nd USA Powerlifting Meet. There’s nowhere to go from here except up!”
The Bladenboro native squatted 336 pounds, bench-pressed 193 pounds and deadlifted 363 pounds. Her 891 total pounds was 20 pounds more than she lifted to be named Best Female Lifter at the North Carolina USA Powerlifting State Championship in Raleigh in June. That victory qualified Campbell for the National Championships.
There were 62 women from around the country competing with Campbell in the Female Raw Open 72kg Class.
Mary Caitlin’s lift total was only 25 kgs out of 8th place, but the top 7 finishers lifted 452.5 kgs (996 pounds) or more.  Kimberly Walford from New Jersey was the national champion with a total of 549 kgs (1,208 pounds) for the 3 lifts.
Chelsea Savit from Texas was second (502.5 kgs) and Kloie Doublin from Indiana (480 kgs) was third.
