In Elizabethtown, the Cape Fear Farmer’s Market is a busy hub for many farmers and crafters. Ms. Betty Tatum announced she and her son would have a booth at the market offering homemade cloth masks each Friday and Saturday.

Tatum has been a trusted seamstress for many years in Bladen County. She retired some time ago but said she wanted to use all her fabric, so it did not waste away.

Since masks are in high demand during the COVID-19 Pandemic, Ms. Tatum saw it as an opportunity to teach her son how to make masks with all the fabric she has and then sell them. Ms. Tatum said she and her son are not only offering masks for sale at the local farmer’s market, but they are selling them all across the country. The masks come in different sizes and patterns. They are $5 each.

Farmers are also selling produce and herbs at the market too. Chelsea Dunlap of Council with Vacation Viddles was under the canopy Friday afternoon offering blueberries, corn, zucchini, potatoes, sage, thyme, lemongrass, turmeric, figs, and begonias.

The Vacation Viddles Program engages Youth like 4-H’ers and Youth Ambassadors to learn about sustainable agriculture and how important farming is to our communities.

Ms. Joyce Walters from Walters Family Farm in Bladenboro explained she would be bringing the Youth with Vacation Viddles some more vegetables to use for their non-profit.

Randolph Keaton, with Vacation Viddles, explained farmers like Walters and business owners like Amy Johnson are supporting the Youth program. Farmers donate vegetables for the Youth to sell, and business owners and residents support the program by ordering vegetables and herbs.

Class of 2020 high school graduate, Cody Butler with Gooden Farms, has also been selling fruits and vegetables at the market. He offers watermelon, cantaloupes, tomatoes, cucumbers, and more.

Burney’s Sweets & more and Barefoot Sandwich Shop are both housed at the market as well.

The Cape Fear Farmers Market is located at 106 Martin Luther King Drive in Elizabethtown
