MARTINSVILLE, Va.- Former East Bladen star Maya McDonald poured in 4 first half goals Saturday to lead her Cape Fear Community College Sea Devils to a 5-3 victory over Louisburg in the championship game of the South Atlantic District/Region X Division II Tournament.

McDonald’s ‘Hat Trick’ plus 1 helped earn the Sea Devils an automatic bid to the National NJCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Tournament that begins November 14 at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, AZ.

McDonald broke a scoreless tie in the 23rd minute with a goal off of a feed from Alyssa Wright. Then came a rapid-fire run of 3 goals in 4 minutes for the Cape Fear Community College freshman.

McDonald banged in a goal off of an assist from Ashley Bowling in the 27th minute. A minute later she recorded her ‘Hat Trick’ with a goal off a Justine Moesch assist then fired in a goal in the 30th minute off of an assist from Lauren Laux that pushed the Cape Fear Community lead to 4-0.

Cape Fear was the top seed in the Region X Tournament due to a 7-1 record in region play. McDonald leads Region X in scoring with 28 goals in 14 games as the Sea Devils have posted an 11-2-1 overall record. She has also dished out 6 assists.

In Wednesday’s tournament opener, McDonald tallied 1 goal as the Sea Devils cruised to a 9-0 victory over Patrick Henry. She had drilled in 2 goals last Saturday in an 8-0 win over Patrick Henry in Cape Fear’s regular season finale.
