I grew up on a farm in northern Davidson County. I was an only child but my family kept foster kids and sometimes had several at one time. I grew up working hard in the hayfields and at Motsinger Block Plant making concrete blocks. My father left when I was six months old and I never got to know him. At the age of 19, I was introduced to my Heavenly Father when I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior at a “Word of Life” youth event. My girlfriend Kim was saved that same night on May 3, 1993.
A few years later Kim and I got married and have been happily married now for the last 20 years. We have three children; Will-16, Kendal-14, and Wes-12. Each child is two years apart, just how we ordered them.
I felt the call of God to the ministry although I felt extremely unworthy. I left my job and went to school full time to train for the ministry. God led me to a small conservative college in the middle of downtown Winston Salem, Piedmont Baptist College. At PBC I earned a BA in Bible with a youth minor.
While in my last year at PBC I became a part time youth pastor at New Friendship Baptist Church in Winston Salem, NC. God led me there for one year and then moved me to Calvary Baptist in Salisbury, NC as Associate Pastor over Youth, Children, and Education. After a year I felt led to continue my education and went to Liberty University where I received a Master of Arts in Religion.
I stayed at Calvary Baptist for five years until God called me to Center Road Baptist as Senior Pastor on April 15, 2013
I now have the privilege to work with Cape Fear Valley-Bladen County Hospital as a Chaplin.
I work with our eight volunteer chaplains and coordinate the schedule to make sure someone is always available to be there for those who may be in need pastoral care. I come in a few times a week and make my rounds in the hospital and pray with patients and staff and continually pray for our leadership doctors, and nurses who work hard and make hard decisions every day!
