A series of public meetings has been scheduled to discuss the creation of a new State Park along the Black River including sections which pass through Bladen County.
The Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, Division of Parks and Recreation (Division) is undertaking a feasibility study to determine if a State Park should be established along the Black River at the request of the State Legislature. House Bill 353 directed the Division to study the feasibility and desirability of acquiring land and establishing a state park on the Black River. The study will also include an estimated cost for creating this park and an assessment of actions that can be taken to improve the navigability of the Black River.
Several public open houses will be held in September to gather public input on the study. The public is invited to attend any one of these open houses to be able to learn about and provide comments and concerns to Division Staff about the study. The Open House dates are as noted below.
