Retired North Carolina Highway Patrol Major Waylon Blue Richardson passed away Saturday.  He was 91 years old. A memorial service was conducted on Wednesday at Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church. During his 41-year career with the North Carolina Highway Patrol, he was assigned to Troop B in Bladen County.

He and his wife, Maxine Cole Richardson, resided in Bladen County for a time as well as living in New Bern, Wilkesboro, Hickory, Asheville Salisbury and his last duty station was Raleigh where he achieved the rank of Major.

Richardson received a certificate from the Elberta Lodge No. 654 for 60 years of service as a Master Mason.  He and his wife Maxine were also loyal members of Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Roger, Ashton, Walter and Bob as well as his sisters Frances, Margaret, and Dot.
