SoccerEast Bladen senior Robert Fletcher scored the first goal of his high school career Thursday night to highlight a 9-0 non-conference victory for the Eagles over visiting West Columbus.

Fletcher who had served as the Eagles manager in earlier seasons wanted to play on the team this season and not only was his dream fulfilled – his name was recorded in the scoring column.

Senior Alex Felder worked the ball down the left baseline and sent a pass to Fletcher at the front of the goal, and Robert fired the shot into the right corner of the net for his first Eagle goal.

The East Bladen scoring started when junior Grey Caballero connected with Josue near the 18 yard line and Josue converted the assist into an Eagle goal. Sophomore Brooks McGill found freshman Greyson Heustess in the box later in the half, and Heustess knocked in the second Eagle goal.

Heustess struck again later in the half as he turned a cross from sophomore Caleb Hatchell into a goal and a 3-0 East Bladen lead. Josue connected on his second goal from the 18 before halftime off of another feed from McGill.

Heustess began the second half by dribbling the ball down the left baseline then finding McGill in front of the net. McGill booted in the goal for a 5-0 East Bladen lead. Josue headed a pass into junior Logan Baxley, and Baxley headed the ball into the net for a 6-0 lead.

Freshman Ezequiel Arteaga set up the next Eagle goal with a cross from the right sideline to Heustess who was near the 18 yard line. Heustess then smacked a long header past the on-rushing goalie and into the net for a 7-0 lead. Caballero converted a corner kick from McGill into the goal that pushed the lead to 8-0.

Heustess recorded a ‘hat trick’ with his 3 goals and had one assist. Josue added 2 goals and an assist. McGill totaled 3 assists and one goal, and Cabellero had a goal and an assist.
