NAKINA – Clarkton School of Discovery exploded for 7 runs in the 5th inning to break open a 5-4 game, and the Blue Devils held on for a 12-6 Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball victory Tuesday.

Catcher Jaxon Hair led off with a single, and Cayden Moore slammed a double. After Omar Powell walked, Rex Register belted a single that scored Hair and Moore. Ryne Priest cracked a single that scored Powell.

Hunter Wood walked, and Noah German reached base on an error that brought home Register and Priest. Hair hammered a double that scored Wood and German and stretched the CSD lead to 12-4.

Nakina scored single runs in the 5th and 7th innings for the final margin.

The Blue Devils had grabbed a 4-0 lead in the 1st inning. Wood and German ripped singles, and Moore walked, before Gabriel Wright pounded a double that scored Wood and German. Powell smashed a double that scored Moore and Wright.

Nakina answered with 4 runs in their half of the first, but the Blue Devils retook the lead in the 2nd as Aiden Trinidad reached base on an error and circled the bases as Wood and Hair drilled singles.

Wright batted 3-for-4 with the 2-run double and scored a run. Hair finished 3-for-5 at the plate with a 2-run double and a run scored. Wood batted 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored, and German finished 2-for-5 with 2 runs scored.

Powell delivered the 2-run double and scored a run. Moore doubled and scored twice. Register smacked the 2-run single, and Priest drove in a run with a single. Register, Priest and Trinidad all scored runs.

Powell pitched a 5-hitter to pick up the win, struck out 4 batters and walked 4.

Coach Robert Mazur’s Blue Devils improved to 4-3 in league play and 4-5 overall and will travel to Bladenboro Thursday.
