Bladen County SportsCody Butler pitched a complete game 2-hitter to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 14-2 Bladen Five Middle School Conference victory over host Elizabethtown Middle School Thursday.

Clarkton got on the board in the first inning as Dan Tatum walked, stole second and third, and scored on a passed ball.  Elizabethtown got walks by Keyshaun Davis and Josh McKoy in the bottom of the first.  A sacrifice by Jasper Locklear plated Davis to knot the score at 1-1.

After two outs in the top of the second, Shy Pone drew a walk and stole second and third.  Spencer Scott walked and stole second.  Jake Evans belted a single to score Pone and Scott.

Evans stole second and third and scored on single by Tatum.  After Tatum stole second, Greyson Heustess smacked a single to score Tatum and give Clarkton a 5-1 lead.

Clarkton exploded for eight runs in the top of the third inning.  Eric Chancy reached on an error, and Butler slammed a double to drive in Chancy. Butler scored on a passed ball.  Pone was hit by a pitch, stole second and third, and scored on a passed ball.

Scott, Evans, and Tatum drew walks.  Heustess singled to drive in the three runs and scored on a passed ball.  Pierce Melvin walked and later scored on a passed ball.

Riley Merritt cracked a single to lead off the bottom of the third for Elizabethtown and raced home when Josh McKoy slammed a double to plate the second Cougar run.

Clarkton added one run in the fourth as Butler walked and stole second and third.  A sacrifice by Evans plated Butler for the Blue Devils.

Butler finished with a double and a single to lead the Clarkton hitters. Heustess, Chancy and Evans added one hit each to the Blue Devil attack.

Josh McKoy pitched the first 3 innings for the Cougars, and Davis came on in relief to pitch the final 2 innings. McKoy’s double and Merritt’s single accounted for the Elizabethtown hits.

Clarkton improves to 2-0 in the Bladen Five and 5-0 overall. Elizabethtown is 1-1 in the Bladen Five.
